India is an ancient land and its sages have been on the quest of self realization since many thousands of years, using meditation as a tool to raise their self consciousness. <p>Although there are a lot of Ashrams all over India, where the seekers are engaged in their search for the ultimate truth, the Gurumaa ashram in gannaur, India has a lot of unique things to offer to the visitors that are very hard to find elsewhere. I’ve also read about major corporations that believe in meditation. They feel it’s so important for good performance that they hire meditation consultants to teach their workers and even pay employees for time just to meditate.</p>
<p>I’ve asked my mentors what has really helped them move to the level of success they enjoy today. And you guessed it, meditation was their answer. Phil Helmuth, one of the world’s best poker players even attributes his success to the practice of meditation!</p>
<p>Because I know its value, I want to be able to practice meditation successfully too. I have tried for years, but to this day I am still NOT able to meditate.</p>
<p>I spent some time trying to troubleshoot my meditation problem. Does it go back to my formative years? Did I spend too much time playing video games as a kid?</p>
<p>I’m not sure of the cause, but the reality is that my mind is just too active to meditate. You see, my brain works like CNN. I have one reporter delivering the news and an additional ticker tape of information flowing across the bottom of the screen.</p>
<p>But despite my meditation failures, I am very fortunate to have been able to achieve incredible results in my life using an alternate technique.</p>
<p>This technique was actually a tremendous gift that I received from a close friend of mine. This is a friend who also had limited success meditating. He introduced me to an effective technology called brain wave entrainment.</p>
<p>Brain wave entrainment allows one to manipulate the brain state with very little practice and a rapid learning curve. It’s generally accomplished with audio soundtracks. The audio has been modified to manipulate the brain into the desired state. So if you can listen to audio, you can change your state of mind. And if you are hearing impaired this effect can also be created with specially designed strobe effects.</p>
<p>So why am I telling you about changing the brain state in an article on meditation? Because whether you realize it or not, the holy grail of meditation is the theta brain wave state!</p>
<p>When you are barely conscious (just before sleep or right after waking, for example) your brain waves are in the theta state. This is the middle ground between the conscious and the subconscious world, and also the goal of meditation.</p>
<p>When you get into the theta state, but can remain conscious, you have the ability to access and influence your subconscious mind. This is extremely important because the subconscious mind is much more powerful than the conscious mind.</p>
<p>So, getting yourself into the theta brain wave state on a regular basis in order to influence your subconscious mind is the secret to manifesting change and positive results in your life.</p>
<p>In fact, before we were able to measure brainwave patterns in the human brain with machines, people were using entrainment to induce a theta state. The chanting of monks, the drumbeats of Native Americans, and the hypnotic state created by a campfire are all examples of brain wave entrainment.</p>

The mind will go out again and again, but the meditator gently brings it back to the subject of concentration. Thus, Meditation means awareness. Whatever you do with awareness is meditation. "Watching your breath" is meditation; listening to the birds is meditation. As long as these activities are free from any other distraction to the mind, it is effective meditation.</p>

<p><strong>Meditation</strong> is not a technique but a way of life. Meditation means to join together or to yoke. It describes a state of consciousness, when the mind is free of scattered thoughts and various patterns. The observer realizes that all the activity of the mind is reduced to one.</p>

<p>I want to make clear that meditation is NOT thinking over your next chess move, remembering your first kiss, worrying about your bills or thinking about the meaning of life.</p>
<p>It's relaxing and focussing your mind so that your brainwaves are primarily cycling at the alpha rate.</p>
<p>Many years ago, brain researchers found that the electrical impulses of our brains cycle as waves as various intervals, as measured by an EEG. The speed of these waves help determine our states of mind. Alpha is brain going at the rate of about 7 to 14 cycles per second.</p>
<p>This feels relaxed and dreamy. You can easily visualize and concentrate.</p>
<p>You can practice entering alpha simply by relaxing (you can sit on the floor or in a chair or lie down if you wish), closing your eyes, look up at a 45 degree angle and slowly count from 100 to 1.</p>
<p>With practice, reduce this count to 20 to 1 and then 10 to 1.</p>
<p>You can also take courses to learn this in more detail or by audio CDs that will help you to induce this state while listening with headphones.</p>
<p>Once relaxed and in alpha, what do you think about? Nothing, that's the point. Do focus your attention on one thing. That could be your breathing (take deep, long and slow relaxed breaths), a word or sound or an image.</p>
<p>I think it's fun to imagine myself just sitting on a tropical beach. I feel the sun on my skin, see the blue sky and listen to waves crash. You can think of yourself in any place you find relaxing. A mountain, a palace or a space ship.</p>
<p>Stay like that for about 20 minutes, then go about the rest of your day. Or go to bed -- meditating just before you go to bed is a great way to go right to sleep.</p>
<p>If you want mystical benefits, be my guest. But all I'm claiming is that the regular practice of such meditation will improve your ability to think, concentrate and relax under stress.</p>
<p>Regular practice of meditation helps quiet your mind so that you are more open to insights or intuition which can help you in many ways, including your chess.</p>
<p>Once you can slip easily into the alpha state, put the tips of your thumb and first two fingers of your right hand together as you do so. Once you've done this a few times, your mind learns to go quickly into an alpha state whenever you put these three fingers together.</p>
<p>Then you can use this during a chess game. One of the biggest challenges in playing chess is to stay calm despite the pressure. If you allow yourself to get tense and worried, you are not going to play your best game of chess.</p>
<p>Chess requires mental concentration. That's concentration and focus -- not tension and worry.</p>
<p>When you tense up and worry, you aren't in the mental state when you focus on the pieces and the game. That's when even World Champions make stupid moves.</p>
<p>When you catch yourself thinking about how much time you have left, how your opponent is glaring at you, how much you need to win this game etc -- put your 3 fingers together, take a deep breath to relax . . . and then focus on the board and the pieces and what you next move should be.</p>
<p>When you're playing chess and in the rest of your life, meditating help relieve your stress and improve your mental functioning.</p>

<p>The Law of Attraction is very simple…that which is like unto itself is drawn.  This is the most powerful, all-encompassing of the Universal Laws.  It is the Law to which everything that happens can be attributed.  We have no influence over the operation of the Law of Attraction.  Like gravity, this law is always at work.  Just as “what goes up much come down” is a persistent, ubiquitous consequence of gravity, the manifestation of those things upon which we focus is always the outcome of the Law of Attraction.  While we cannot change the Law…we can change the things that “we throw up”, or the things we focus on, and in so doing we change “what comes down”, or the manifestations that we experience.</p>
<p>The Law of Deliberate Creation says that we create that which we think about.  If we can deliberately focus our thoughts on that which we desire, we can create any outcome that we want.  If we can focus on a pure desire for 68 seconds, we can begin the manifestation of that desire. </p>
<p>The Law of Allowing states that when we are in vibrational alignment with our desire, it will, at that point, come into our existence.  The “trick” to allowing is to give up the needing, the fear, the want, the control and simply allow our expressed desires to be delivered by Universal Power.  As physical beings, we tend to be “wired” to be control oriented.  We want to influence the way something happens.  We have a need to worry something until it happens-or not.  Unfortunately,  most of our worry focuses on the absence of something, or on the presence of a desired something and while our stated desire may be for what we want, our alignment is with that which we do not want…and so we get stuck.</p>
<p>It is important to recognize that our ability to desire something ensures that we can have it.  Once we have expressed our desire, it goes into vibrational escrow until we allow ourselves to feel good and come into vibrational alignment with the positive expression of our desire.</p>
<p>It can be a challenge to “not think about something” and while we can force ourselves to focus on the affirmative side of our desire for periods of time, that is difficult while we are in our conscious state, since we are continually reminded about what we do not have.</p>
<p>Meditation quiets the mind.  It stills the active, conscious thoughts and allows us to stop resisting.  Active, guided meditation can provide us with focused periods of pure thought about our desire, without the tendency to drift back to the “side”.  Passive meditation allows the simple quieting of the mind…and so allows our vibrational level to rise naturally to the level of our desires.</p>
<p>In passive meditation, one simply sits quietly for 15 or 20 minutes, breathes normally and focuses on one’s breathing.  When thoughts drift in, and they will, they are simply released and focus returns to the breathing.  It may be helpful to use quiet music or sounds of nature in the background.  Today it is also possible to find binaural beat or brainwave entrainment audio accompaniments to meditation which very effectively help draw the mind into synchronized theta levels (which are the same as those when we are in the dream state) and allow very effective quieting of the buzz of conscious thoughts.  Doing passive meditation once or twice a day will be of tremendous value in the Allowing process.  During these quiet moments the pure value of our desires are allowed to manifest without the confusion of conscious thought, and so manifestation can come much more quickly.</p>
<p>Active, or guided meditation takes the form of holding an intent to think about a specific thing, like our desire, as we go through the meditative process.  Now, instead of focusing on our breathing, we focus on our desire.  This is very powerful.  Again, it is possible to find audio aids which can, in semi-hypnotic ways, guide you into meditative relaxation and the absence of conscious noise and facilitate the focus on a specific desire.  Exercising this form of pure thought powerfully influences the manifestation of desires. </p>
<p>Meditation helps us escape from the conscious blockages that impact our ability to effectively allow that we are trying to deliberately create by capitalizing on the Law of Attraction.  Anyone who wishes to take control of their “manifestational life” should begin an active, daily program of meditations.</p>
