Lightnin'Bug asked:
see in advertisements and stuff on the internet. Does anybody here do it, or do you know anybody who does it?
No, I don't live in CA. I've occasionally been sorry about that, too. LOL.

how to meditate
I get out to the Pacific when I can; it’s very calming, although it’s too far away from me to be an every-day trip. I’m about 100 miles away. I’ve considered picking up a teaching certificate and going to work in one of the school districts on the Washington coastline, so I can go more often.

Some people live a few minutes away from the beach, so I’m sure they do.
Have you ever been to Venice Beach? Lol, people definitely do there.

Well I guess that depends on the individual. I don’t know anyone who thinks “I will go to the beach this weekend and meditate”. BUT I do know people who will say “I think I will go to the beach this weekend and getaway” and then they meditate out on the beach because they are keeping up with their regular schedule. I meditate daily so no matter where I am, I do it. If I am at the beach….I will go out in front of the ocean and do so. The waves help with clearing my mind. If I am camping, I will find a spot beneath a big tree or something.

One reason for meditation is to calm the mind and therefore calm and relax the body. Running water is known to have a calming effect as does the sound of the ocean, so yes, if there was one handily nearby then you bet I’d go
In fact they sell cds with nature sounds to meditate by and I know the ocean is one of them. The real one’s probably cheaper LOL

If it’s not crowded, anywhere by the sea is a GREAT place to meditate!! The calming sounds of the wind and the waves and the seabirds make an excellent background for deep, relaxing meditation, which is also enhanced by the joyful feeling of the fresh air and the fragrance of the sea – absolutely perfect. Lots of people know this, and take advantage of it.

Considering that we are largely made up of water, our bodies are assisted in meditation by doing so nearby. The construct of water resonates to our core, and as with many things in nature, we have a lot to gain by simply observing. _/\_

Zen Meditation
Watching the sunrise or sunset over the ocean, something you can’t express. I do enjoy sleeping near the ocean and waking up to the sound of waves … but there is another side, the TV commercials leave out.
The bugs, the sand fleas, the little crabs that pinch. The hot sun and sand that gets into everything and everywhere. Then there is the garbage, the plastics, the needles that float on the water, the dead fish and the mess seagulls make when they are looking for food from you. Even in Hawaii, the beaches can become very messy. There is so much crap on the shores and in the water, it is hard to enjoy a day or night at the beach.
From a distance, it looks good, but close up, well, it can even smell like a sewer. So we try to go to out of the way places, but wear netting to help keep the bugs away, especially at dusk, you lose something when you are wearing head to toe armor.
